What does it do:

This salt is dissolved to create a strong $\text{brine}$ $\text{solution}$ which is necessary to recharge the resin within a water softener. During regeneration, the concentrated sodium ions force the release of the captured Calcium and Magnesium (hard water minerals) from the resin beads, effectively cleaning and restoring the resin's capacity to continue softening water.

Good to know:
 

• Corrosive Nature: Salt (and brine) is corrosive and will cause metal to rust. Ensure the salt is contained within the FRP Brine Tank and keep the surrounding area clean.

• Cleaner Results: Keep the salt inside the original woven bag (or a salt grid) until needed to minimize moisture absorption and ensure cleaner, trouble-free operation.
